Bibliography of Legislation and Public Affairs
The latest online version of the parliamentary bibliography is available on the library’s website.
The bibliography, compiled by István Soltész, former Secretary General of the National Assembly, has seen five printed editions since 2013. It has a continuously expanding content, now containing nearly one hundred thousand titles, and can also be found among the digitalised documents of the library. Unique even by international comparison, the Bibliography extends to literature published on the Hungarian state, state bodies (especially the National Assembly), political systems and elections. The seven-volume bibliography is complemented by two e-books by the author: a volume of documents on the inaugural session of the democratically elected National Assembly in May 1990, and a volume of studies on the National Assembly.
The Bibliography comprises monographs, volumes of studies, and studies in scientific journals as well as articles in weekly and daily newspapers. Thematically, it extends to the state, the institution of legislation, the members of parliament and elections, and the political system, and contains documents ranging – respectively – from the foundation of the state, from the beginnings of legislation, from 1848-1849, i.e. the establishment of modern popular representation, and from the era of dualism to the present day. The thematic criteria of the selection are expanded from time to time in accordance with the current events affecting the National Assembly, as well as in regard to the extent of the research on the given periods. The Bibliography is augmented primarily based on publications related to Hungary and published in Hungary, while it also examines the Central and Eastern European region, and selectively processes foreign language literature related to Hungary.
The on-going compilation and extension of the Bibliography is facilitated by the uniquely rich collections of the Library of the Hungarian Parliament on law, politology, history and other social sciences.
